Purpose of the Role
In order to establish new food laboratory in Kanto area, act as project manager to coordinate whole process to meet timeline for providing operation and analytical services in timely manner.
After operation will start, supervise a range of laboratory staff and provide leadership to those staff to ensure that their specific area of responsibility operates efficiently and effectively. To provide technical support to direct reports as required.
Responsibilities
- Establish new laboratory as a project manager with a close relationship with the management team in a timely manner.
- Clarify what kind of analytical instruments are needed and negotiate with the supplier to introduce appropriate analytical instruments on time with cheaper price together with purchasing department
- Collaborate with corporate OBP (Operation Best Practice) team to make an efficient layout of laboratory.
- Act as playing manager until all operations will be on track
- To ensure that the Laboratory area operates efficiently and effectively through:
- Efficient organization of workflow
- Prioritization of urgent and regulatory related testing
- Ensuring suitably qualified staff are recruited
- Working with Laboratory Team Leaders to ensure the efficient utilization of available resources.
- To ensure that resource requirements are met for the Laboratory area through:
- Co-ordinate staff so that the team’s KPIs are met in relation to TATs and specific customer requirements
- Ensuring that suitably qualified and/or trained staffs are available to meet delivery requirements.
- Ensure that the BUMA is fully aware of any operational or productivity issues as and when they arise.
- To provide information to BUMA to support their completion of annual budgeting and monthly reporting including resource usage, productivity reports, consumable usage, issues impacting revenue productivity.
- Laboratory procedures are to be reviewed and updated as required.
- Consistently demonstrate the leadership values required to lead and motivate the laboratory team. Ensure clarity and alignment of roles and ensure the efficient deployment of staff resources and foster a culture of continuous quality improvement.
- To actively promote, lead, coach, and develop staff. Including monitoring performance and annual performance reviews.
- To ensure all new staff goes through a proper induction program, and all new and current staff are trained properly.
- To ensure regular team meetings are held to ensure that all issues are communicated and addressed.
- To actively participate in new project work along with assisting in implementing business improvements as required.
- To ensure that systems implemented are adhered to and monitored
- Work closely with the Quality Manager and BUMA on Quality issues and Quality improvements
- To ensure that any customer inquiries and/or issues/complaints are responded to in a timely fashion and customers are aware of any delays in testing.
- To ensure that all internal and external audits are completed as required.
- Participate in workplace safety management practices to improve safety and health in the workplace environment to keep oneself and others safe, and to achieve continuous improvement and recognition of best practices.
Qualifications
Education
- BS degree or relevant experience.
Experience
- Laboratory or Operational Management experience
- Experience in administration and operational service environment.
- Experience with invoicing, purchasing and accounting systems.

Knowledge & Skills
- Good knowledge of MS environment (ie. Word, Excel etc.)
- Document reviewing (SOP’s) experience.
