Position: Director of Finance - Japan
Location: Tokyo, Japan
Role Overview:
A rapidly growing company is seeking a highly skilled Director of Finance for Japan. This critical role involves establishing and leading the finance function within the Japanese market, closely aligning with the APAC finance team. The successful candidate will play a key role in driving the company’s commercial expansion in Japan, combining strategic financial planning with hands-on operational execution.
Key Responsibilities:
- Establish Financial Infrastructure: Develop and implement robust financial, FP&A, and administrative systems tailored to the Japanese market.
- Strategic Partnership: Collaborate with the General Manager and Functional Leads to provide financial insights and guidance.
- Leadership in Planning and Budgeting: Lead strategic planning, forecasting, and budgeting processes, ensuring consistency with APAC and global timelines.
- Financial Collaboration: Work closely with Commercial Operations and Medical leadership to manage P&L and conduct variance analysis.
- Financial Reporting: Prepare and present detailed financial analysis and reports to APAC and corporate management.
- Assumption & Target Setting: Define key financial assumptions, set targets, and conduct reviews to ensure alignment with APAC strategies.
- Process Improvement: Enhance business processes, address technical challenges, and ensure analytical accuracy across operations.
- Team Building: Recruit, develop, and lead the local finance team to ensure effective financial management.
- US GAAP & Statutory Compliance: Support APAC accounting in the establishment of US GAAP and local statutory accounts.
- Audit Management: Oversee audit processes, including internal reviews, SOX compliance, and adherence to US and local GAAP standards.
- Procure-to-Pay Support: Assist in the Procure-to-Pay cycle and ensure seamless integration with pharmaceutical stakeholders.
- Policy Development: Contribute to the development of accounting policies and the broader operational strategy.
- Business Development: Provide financial insights and support for business development activities.
- APAC Projects: Engage in and contribute to multi-country finance projects across the APAC region.
Qualifications:
- Educational Background: University degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field. CPA, CA, or CIMA certification preferred.
- Experience: A minimum of 10 years in Finance, Accounting, or FP&A, with significant international experience.
- Industry Expertise: Proven experience in the Pharmaceutical or Life Sciences industry.
- Technical Proficiency: Strong analytical skills and the ability to present data effectively.
- Adaptability: Comfortable working in a dynamic, non-structured environment with a collaborative approach.
- Technology Enthusiast: Keen interest in emerging technologies and best practices in FP&A.
- Communication Skills: Fluency in both English and Japanese, with excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
